Utilities

Basement and utility rooms are often places where proper plumbing matters the most. They hold washing machines and hot water heaters, which are two machines that keep your household running smoothly throughout the day. Basements are also the most likely to flood, as they are usually the lowest point in the house, and require protection against excess water from outside (or inside!).

Sump Pumps

Most homes with finished basements have what are called Sump Pumps, which are designed to collect excess water and move it away from the house, to the nearest storm drain. When water enters these pumps, they activate and begin the process of pumping the water away – as long as they are in full working order.

These serve an important function and should be tested regularly. You can test your pump by dumping a bucket of water into the sump pit and check to be sure it turns on and disposes of the water. If the pump does not turn on or does not remove the water, schedule an appointment with us at DH&Z Plumbing to get your Sump Pump fully serviced.

Water Heaters

Being the device that supplies hot water throughout your house, hot water heaters are an important plumbing fixture, and also need to be checked regularly for any signs of malfunction. Leaks are the most common problem, and they are often identified by pooling water beneath the unit.

Watch for any changes in the smell or color of your water. If you notice rust-colored water or a change in odor, your water heater may need some attention. If you see these changes or find pooling water around the unit, contact DH&Z Plumbing and we will be there to solve your problem anytime, night or day. If you experience hot water loss, we are here to provide services 247 so to get hot water running through your home again! We can repair your current water heater or replace it with a new one.

Washing Machines

Washing machines are a common culprit of plumbing problems as there are a number of things that can go wrong and require maintenance. Damaged pipes, leaks, and flooding can cause significant damage in your home.

If your washing machine is giving you problems, contact DH&Z Plumbing and we will inspect it for you and help you prevent further damage. It is also important to check your washing machine pipes regularly for wear, cracks, or leaks. If you notice any issues with these pipes, be sure and have one of our plumbers access the situation before it becomes a bigger problem.

Floor Drains

Floor drains are often found in basements and garages and are designed to dispose of excess water that would otherwise lead flooding. The most common problem these drains face is clogging due to debris build up.

If possible, check the floor drains and remove any visible debris. If you are unsure of how to inspect the drain, schedule an appointment with us and a team member will be happy to help you check and restore your floor drain.
